NOVA PUBLICAÇÃO DO UN PROGRAMME ON THE FAMILY
Disponível em: Men in families and family policy in a changing world

New UN/DESA publication "Men in families and family policy in a changing world" looks at the real and potential contribution of men to families. It talks about the importance of men for gender equality, their participation in care work and special and unique contributions they make to children's development. It also focuses on migration and HIV/AIDS. In the times when the empowerment of women is the main focus of social policies and programmes, it is timely to reflect on the fact that gender equality, work-family balance and better outcomes for children will not be realized if men are not fully engaged in family life. Such engagement is especially important for fathers in challenging family contexts. Despite an increasing worldwide focus on the role of men in families, policy-makers have been slow to recognize the need for effective public policy that is supportive of men's involvement in their families. "Men in families" attempts to stimulate the debate on the best means to develop social and economic policies that recognize men in their role as valuable contributors to the well-being of their families.
